Participants will investigate the process of image reproduction using intaglio printing methods, including etching, aquatint, and methods of inscribing onto metal printing plates. Workshops will cover etching techniques, inking and printing, single color and multiple color printing, and methods for printing in registration. Traditional and modern techniques will be covered.
Workshop participants will learn traditional intaglio techniques; more advanced students will be encouraged to experiment and explore the creative potential of the medium. Participants are encouraged to come to the first session with a good idea of the type of imagery they wish to explore during the workshops. It is recommended that participants bring examples of imagery they have used previously in other media. Studio health and safety and the appropriate handling and presentation of work will also be covered.
