This workshop is delivered in five sessions and is designed to introduce and explore analogue photographic practice through a guided photography project. The theme of the project will be introduced during the first workshop meeting.
By the end of the workshop program it is expected that participants will have explored photographic technique and applied it to a body of new work.
Participants should be willing to work on the project outside the workshop meeting times. Participants will be introduced to working confidently with 35mm slr cameras, processing black and white film and making photographic prints. Particular attention and input during the workshop will be on idea generation and concept development.
Session 1 Will introduce the theme and introduce the basics of 35mm camera control. Participants will practice processing black and white films. Before the second session participants should make photographs and process their films in readiness for the next session.
Session 2 Will introduce and concentrate on darkroom practice – making black and white prints.
Session 3 Will be dedicated to reviewing prints made and concept development.
Session 4 Will include more advanced printing techniques. Session 5 Will include considerations in presenting finished prints.
Participants in this program may elect to submit work for the Tashkeel open exhibition to be held in the gallery in March and April 2009. Inclusion in this exhibition is not guaranteed but is at the discretion of the curator.Schedule
