Delivered in four sessions, this workshop will be a combination of theoretical presentations and practical experience, providing an introduction to Arabic calligraphy for beginners.
The workshops will begin with an illustrated lecture on the history of Arabic calligraphy, giving an understanding of the historical context and the development of calligraphy leading to contemporary styles. The tools and materials used in the art of Arabic calligraphy will be discussed, including a demonstration of the making of a calligraphy reed pen.
An overview of the main and the most used styles of calligraphy will be presented, clarifying the characteristics of each style and showcasing examples of calligraphy fine art pieces, demonstrating the application of both traditional and modern approaches. Emphasis will be placed on showing the use of Arabic Calligraphy as a modern art form and the use of calligraphy in contemporary design.
A specific calligraphic style will be selected as a basis for the studio practice. The workshop leader will work with the participants to develop their individual skills using this selected style.Schedule
