Introduction
Knowledge of the processes involved in making a garment enables a fashion designer to better resolve their design ideas. This workshop is intended for people with little or no previous experience in garment construction, but with an interest in fashion and ambitions to realize their own design ideas.
The workshop consists of a series of practical exercises covering the basic principles of garment construction. The course will cover a range of different seams, fastenings and finishing processes. Participants will be encouraged to apply processes covered in the manufacture of a simple shirt, but completion of this garment will rely on additional time being spent outside of the workshop hours. The handling of textiles and use of a basic sewing machine will be integrated into the course.
