Relief printing is one of the most direct and rewarding methods available to artists interested in pursuing printmaking as a creative process. Using various sizes and shapes of carving tools, participants will learn how to place an image, carve into the block, then print their images onto a variety of surfaces, including paper, textile, and canvas. Woodblocks offer an organic grain pattern, which can be manipulated and carved, while linoleum offers a more graphic mark-making surface for artists to utilize. The two can used together or separately to obtain the desired results of each artist. Techniques covered will include: single block printing, multiple block printing, and multiple-color reduction printing from a single block.

Materials
Basic materials and equipment required for the workshop will be provided. Any additional materials required are to be purchased; limited quantities may be available from Tashkeel or directly from the workshop leader. Participants are advised to bring their own aprons.
